You can make a TPD claim for a physical injury, mental health illnesses or chronic illness like cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, chronic heart disease, fibromyalgia and many other illnesses.

A lot of Queenslanders have superannuation death and disability claims with superannuation funds that are unique to Queensland; for example, SunSuper.

Before making a disability or death benefit claim from these funds you should remember that:

• Sunsuper currently have in place a TPD policy that is called TPD Assist.
• TPD Assist is different to most super funds because, generally speaking, if you are successful in a claim, you are paid 1/6^th of the TPD in an instalment and then have to claim again each year to be assessed as to whether you are entitled to the next TPD instalment.
• Importantly, there are some exceptions to the above, such as a claimant with Multiple Sclerosis, who would (if their claim is successful) be entitled to the full lump sum rather than annual instalments.
