Tom Cobban

Tom is a Director of Berrill & Watson Lawyers and has worked his whole career in superannuation and insurance claims. He only works for the individual or the insured person and never represents the insurance companies.

He considered an expert in this field working primarily on:

• TPD claims;
• Income protection;
• Trauma claims;
• Terminal illness; and 
• General insurance claims.

Tom has approximately 10 years’ experience as a solicitor working exclusively in superannuation and insurance claims.

Tom regularly travels around Australia providing advice and assistance to people in rural and regional locations across the country. He regularly visits clients in Victoria, South Australia and NSW.

Tom has acted for people in many cases in both the Victorian and NSW Courts and in the Federal Courts and has also advocated for people at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (formerly Financial Ombudsman Service and the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal). He has acted in cases against all of the big insurance companies in Australia.

Tom delivers many seminars and public talks and provides pro-bono support and advice for:

• MS Society in Victoria;
• MS Society South Australia;
• Disability Rights Advocacy Service;
• PARAQUAD SA;
• Migrant Resource Centre;
• financial counsellors from many organisations; and
• various mental health organisations including NEAMI and Spectrum.

Tom is Chair of the Board of Social Security Rights Victoria and is dedicated to assisting this organisation to help vulnerable and disadvantaged people with Centrelink debt, Disability Support Pensions (DSP) and other issues.

Tom is keen to ensure that expert legal assistance with superannuation and insurance claims for people in remote and regional areas is a priority. Whilst primarily working out of our Melbourne office, Tom spends a lot of time in regional Victoria and all areas of South Australia.
